Viking Sport Cruisers
In 1965, the exclusive relationship between Viking and Princess Yachts International of Plymouth, England was forged with the goal of building a new class luxury cruising yachts for the American market. Today, the spectacular Viking Sport Cruisers product line represents over twelve years of a tireless collaborative effort to bring European elegance and craftsmanship together with American support and supervision for the ultimate performing cruising yacht experience.
Long before a new model is introduced, collaboration between Viking Sport Cruisers and Princess begins to ensure that essential product features are incorporated for the American market. Interior layouts are designed to include spacious living accommodations, engineering spaces are carefully planned to compromise adequate room for systems and components essential for safe operation and service in America, and space is allocated for appliances and equipment selected to maximize cruising amenities and creature comforts. Each yacht is designed to be responsive and easy to handle whether running at speed or operating within the confines of a busy marina with conventional drive systems and high-speed balanced rudders optimizing both straight line stability and turning performance.
Using a five axis profiler, plugs for both the hull and superstructure molds are created in-house. The machine’s unyielding precision allows the creation of the series of compound curves and crisp shapes that reflect the timeless, elegant styling.
Every fiberglass component is hand laid to ensure consistency and quality, including hull and superstructure. Hull construction is solid fiberglass, while the use of end grain balsa and high density foam coring in the superstructure provides increased torsional strength and high-thermal insulation. Before component installation begins, bilges throughout each Viking Sport Cruiser hull are gelcoated in gleaming white for clean finish that is easy to maintain.
When it comes time to begin installing components and building a Viking Sport Cruiser, the focus is on safety, reliability and ease of service. As a vertically integrated manufacturer, Princess Yachts International produces as many components in-house as possible to ensure the highest standards of quality and consistency.
Aside from supplied components sent from the United States, certain critical operating systems are included in the specification of a Viking Sport Cruiser to aid in safe and reliable operation in American waters.
When all is finished, the Viking Sport Cruisers team proudly watches as another new yacht heads down the winding Bass River with gleaming gelcoat, sparkling stainless steel, golden teak, and the countless hours of dedication, hard work, and unique transatlantic cooperation that make it all possible.
